My Countertop Shop had the pleasure of joining Cambria this year at Camp Cambria to see all the magic involved!
Camp Cambria is a camp that is arranged for young people diagnosed with Juvenile Arthritis. Cambria’s founder Marty Davis second-handedly experienced the pain caused by arthritis through his parents. When approached by 2 parents, his outlook grew. These 2 parents experienced this same second-hand pain through their own child, who suffered with Juvenile arthritis. Within years, he started a camp in Minnesota for this cause, and shortly after, Camp Cambria Canada was started as well.
For one week of every year, 100’s of children join at this camp where they know that they aren’t alone.
Each day, campers wake up in their assigned cabins, they start their morning activities, they have lunch together, and finish off their day with more activities. There is a lake, a baseball field, horseback riding, an arts and craft building, and so much more. There is even a new rock climbing wall that they can spend hours enjoying with their new friends. 5 times a day, everyone is invited to visit the nurse where they can comfortably take their medication or ice/warm any sore muscles. On the way into the camp, each camper has their own flag. and outside each cabin, the camper has their names and interests.
A few of us from MCS got to tag along for the day. We toured the camp, we met with the campers, we had lunch with the campers and we played a little bit of baseball.
The energy that these kids have blew us all away! They kicked our butt at baseball, and the roaring of the campers at lunch time brought a smile to our faces. It is so important that everyone feels welcome, and nobody feels out of place.
Check out our photos below to get a taste of what we saw!
